About the CBA Festival of Archaeology
The CBA Festival of Archaeology is the UK’s biggest annual celebration of archaeology. Traditionally held over the last two weeks of July, the Festival has evolved from a two-day event to two weeks of activity. With hundreds of events delivered by community groups, heritage organisations, universities and commercial units, we help over half a million people to engage in archaeology, explore stories of place and connect with the environment around them.
As coordinators of the CBA Festival of Archaeology we provide support and promotion to external organisers. The CBA Festival of Archaeology website offers information, guidance and event registration for organisers and acts as a hub for the public providing search facilities, a blog, competitions and details of the Festival’s principle online events such as A Day in Archaeology and Ask An Archaeologist Day.
Who are the CBA?
The Council for British Archaeology (CBA) is a UK wide charity which aims to give everyone the skills and opportunities to tell the stories of places and people to help us understand and connect to our world and make it a better, more inclusive place. By inspiring people to explore places and engage with their environment through archaeology, we will help them make new connections with each other and the places in which they live and work.
We will support more people to value diverse heritage and recognize the cultural value in everything, everywhere.
We will grow the public value of archaeology by connecting commercial, academic and community groups to demonstrate the social impact of archaeology.
The Young Archaeologists' Club (YAC) offers hands-on archaeology activities for young people aged 8 to 16. There are over 75 YAC Branches across the UK. Most meet once a month, usually on a Saturday, and they are a great way to learn more about archaeology and make new friends. Visit the YAC website to find your nearest branch.
